Training Management and Development

Training and development are vital for equipping Oxford University members with the skills needed for their work, research and study. The Training Management and Development (TMD) team plays a key role in creating effective training courses and managing the associated systems.

Creating and designing training for you

The team has two instructional designers who design and create training. They work with departments across the university and IT projects. Development of training is a collaborative effort, involving consultations with project managers, business change managers and subject matter experts (SMEs) from various departments across the University. Their insights help ensure that the training content is accurate and tailored to meet the specific needs of staff.

Recent work includes creating e-learning courses for groups across the university, focusing on critical areas such as invigilators, health and safety, fire safety, and Prevent training and  creating training for the various project roll outs including the University's occupational health management system called Cority, digital accessibility, radioactive materials management and various student systems enhancements.

Managing your courses with CoSy

A key aspect of the training process is the management of courses within CoSy, the University’s training management platform. The TMD team assist groups across the university in using CoSy to manage their training effectively. We've collaborated with multiple groups to successfully integrate their courses into CoSy, such as the Competency Centres, Mental Health, Engineering Science, Estates, Experimental Psychology, HERC, GLAM, WIMMS and Next Generation Research Computing. This has provided us with an expanding network of users, now totalling 76 training administrators across 38 active groups.

Collaboration extends beyond the University, as the TMD team works with external partners like Accessplanit and Coursecheck. Accessplanit provides a comprehensive training management system that powers CoSy, while Coursecheck helps collect and analyse participant feedback. These partnerships serve to enhance the effectiveness of training programs and support ongoing improvements.

The team also provides a self-service training data reporting service where departments can access detailed reports to track uptake of training and compliance rates of members of their department.
