Course management through CoSy

CoSy (Course System) is the University's implementation of the Accessplanit course management and booking tool. It provides an online self-service system for the discovery and management (bookings, cancellations, payments) of courses and other learning activities for delegates, and course administration and reporting for training providers.

The system is used for non-matriculated and supplementary courses, such as IT skills, language learning, and courses in support of academic and research programmes.

CoSy holds the records of courses and delegates for over a dozen training providers around the University.

  • Individuals can access CoSy and see a list of all of the courses and other learning activities that they have undertaken and administer their own bookings (and cancellations).
  • Training providers can access the records for courses and course attendances for their learning activities.
  • Departmental administrators can see training records for all department members.
  • CoSy provides a payment gateway for online payment of any course fees or deposits that might apply.

Initially implemented by the Finance Training team and then the IT Learning Centre, there are now over a dozen training providers using CoSy. Coordination of the use of the tool is provided by the IT Learning Centre through the CoSy Hub. CoSy can also be used to host eLearning modules that need to reach all members of the University, for example Security Awareness, through the CoSy Connect service.

The CoSy platform is able to host your eLearning. For academic programmes, the platform of choice for developing and delivering online learning is the University's VLE - Canvas. However, if you have online training that needs to be delivered to all University members, especially staff, then CoSy is available.

If you are a Training Provider that uses CoSy, then you are already in a position to host your own eLearning. If you are not using CoSy (and perhaps don't want the overhead of becoming a CoSy administrator) then the IT Learning Service can host your eLearning for you through its CoSy Connect service. For a small implementation fee and annual maintenance cost, we will:

  • Help you with your eLearning content provider to ensure that the eLearning package is correctly configured
  • Upload your eLearning to CoSy
  • Set up the CoSy system to deliver your eLearning to your audiences
  • Enable your users to access their own eLearning records
  • Give you regular reports on the usage of the eLearning

The CoSy platform holds data about University members who have booked training with the participating Training Providers.  Work is currently underway to provide access to a self-service interface for departments to access this data for various reporting such as Athena Swan.

In the meantime, departments should contact us if they need this data.

The  platform is shared across all participating Training Providers, and the co-ordination of those activities, including liaison with Accessplanit is through the IT Learning Centre's CoSy Hub.

CoSy Hub:

  • Provides a forum for discussing changes and improvements to CoSy
  • Is a centre of expertise in the use of the platform
  • Organises training in the use of CoSy by Training Providers
  • Co-ordinates the annual licencing of CoSy administrators 
  • On-boards new Training Providers in the use of the platform
